How to Install an Air Gun Fill Probe onto a PCP Hand Pump. Fitting an air gun fill probe onto a PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) hand pump is straightforward if you follow the correct steps. Here’s a guide:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • PCP Hand Pump (Trimex Arms pumps recommended)
  • Air Gun Fill Probe (specific to your air rifle model)
  • Teflon (PTFE) Tape (optional but recommended for better sealing)
  • Wrenches or Adjustable Spanners (if needed)
  • Safety Goggles (optional but recommended)

STEPS TO FIT THE FILL PROBE

  1. Inspect the Pump and Fill Probe:
    • Ensure both the hand pump and fill probe threads are clean and free of dirt or debris.
    • Check for any O-rings on the fill probe to ensure they are intact and in good condition.
  2. Locate the Adapter Port on the Pump:
    • Most PCP pumps have a threaded adapter port for connecting various fill probes or hoses.
    • Identify the correct port where the fill probe will fit.
    • For Trimex Arms pumps, please see the complete instructions below.
  3. Attach the Fill Probe to the Pump:
    • If the threads on the fill probe or pump are exposed, wrap them with several layers of PTFE tape to ensure a tight, leak-free seal.
    • Screw the fill probe into the pump’s adapter port by hand to ensure it threads smoothly. Avoid cross-threading.
    • Once the probe is hand-tight, use a wrench or spanner to secure it snugly. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the threads or O-rings.
  4. Connect the hose (if applicable):
    • Some pumps require the hose to be connected to the fill probe instead of directly threading it into the pump.
    • Attach the hose to the probe using the same method (hand-tight followed by wrench).
  5. Test for Leaks:
    • Before connecting your air rifle, test the connection by lightly pressurizing the pump.
    • Listen for hissing sounds or apply a soapy water solution to the connection points to check for bubbles, indicating a leak.
    • If leaks are found, tighten the connections slightly or reapply PTFE tape.
  6. Connect to the Air Rifle:
    • Insert the fill probe into the air rifle’s fill port securely.
    • Ensure the connection is firm but not forced, as this can damage the fill port or O-rings.
  7. Pump and Fill:
    • Begin pumping slowly, monitoring the rifle’s pressure gauge (if available).
    • Do not exceed the recommended pressure for your air rifle.
  8. Detach and Store:
    • Once filled, carefully disconnect the fill probe from the rifle and pump.
    • Relieve any residual pressure in the pump hose by opening the bleed valve before detaching the hose from the fill probe.

TRIMEX ARMS HAND PUMPS (FILL PROBE INSTALLATION)

Most Trimex Arms PCP Hand Pumps are fitted with a QUICK COUPLER SOCKET that fits directly onto many Air Guns today. However, if your Airgun has a FILL PROBE connection, then some work needs to be done to connect your FILL PROBE (supplied with your gun) to your new Trimex Arms PCP Hand Pump.

All Trimex Arms PCP Hand Pumps have several connectors that may work with your FILL PROBE. However, we usually recommend purchasing a QUICK COUPLER SOCKET ADAPTER separately for the best results.

RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION

This may be your first PCP Airgun, but it will not be your last, so we recommend purchasing a QUICK COUPLER SOCKET to connect to your FILL PROBE. This makes it easy if you have a selection of airguns that may all have different filling connections. Swapping between FILL PROBES using the QUICK COUPLER SOCKET is fast and easy.

WORKAROUND INSTALLATION

This method is a fast and quick solution if you do not have time to order a QUICK COUPLER SOCKET ADAPTER. Using the multi-tool supplied with the Trimex Arms PCP Hand Pump and a large adjustable spanner, remove the QUICK COUPLER SOCKET from the filter. Apply several layers of PTFE tape to the thread of your FILL PROBE. Buy hand start to screw the FILL PROBE into the pump filter, then finish with tools, but do not over-tighten!

SAFETY TIPS

  • Always check your air rifle’s manual for the correct fill pressure and probe type.
  • Wear safety goggles during the process to protect against accidental air discharge.
  • Never attempt to fill a rifle that has a damaged fill port or O-rings.

By following these steps, you should have your fill probe securely attached and ready for use.
